The exercise is being carried out simultaneously with the registration of fresh registers who missed out the first time around leading to an increase in number of residents seeking registration but officials say they are handling the numbers well.Speaking to The Guardian over a telephone interview conducted yesterday, the Head of Communications and Documentation Unit at the NIDA, Thomas William, said the exercise is on going and that they are impressed by the turn out.

“We will be in a better position to give the exact figures once the exercise is completed,” he said but commented that “…the exercise is going as planned…no major challenges have arisen,” he said.
At the registration, one is to bring certified copies of documents that verify their age and citizenship such as birth certificates, passports, academic certificates, driving licences and national health insurance identification cards.
After Ilala, follows Kinondoni Municipality marking the end of the process in Dar es Salaam Region and the beginning of other regions.
At least 568,798 residents of Temeke district, equal to 80 percent of the expected residents, gave their biometrics a few weeks ago.
In that first round, the major issue observed was persons complaining of being required to pay for their photos to be taken instead of it being free as stated.
The highly anticipated IDs are expected to improve national security and criminal investigations as well as revenue collection and social services delivery.
