First Lady roots for women participation in VETA

First Lady Mama Salma Kikwete has called upon parents to make the best use of training being offered by Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA) in Lindi to educate their female children as they do for their male counterparts.
She made the call yesterday in the region when BG Tanzania in partnership with Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA) and VSO (an NGO) officially launched the training project in Lindi.“It is clear that participation of women in VETA programmes has been a big challenge for so long, partly caused by cultural misconceptions,” noted the first lady.“It is high time now for parents to use this opportunity in the region and ensure that female students are enrolled in a large numbers, “she said.

This launch marks BG Tanzania’s continued support of VETA and VSO to deliver international standard energy sector supply chain related training courses. The project began in Mtwara in November 2012 and has been extended to Lindi.

The Tanzania Vocational Education Training (TVET) system presents the greatest opportunity for Tanzanians to become employed in the Petroleum sector, its supply chain, as well as related sectors.

BG Tanzania is committed to supporting the Government of Tanzania to build human capacity needed to harness the potential posed in direct and indirect opportunities that the energy sector could generate.

Education, skills-development and employment represent key priorities for the government and as activities within the petroleum sector increase, employment opportunities will be generated for Tanzanians equipped with the necessary education and skills to gain access to these employment opportunities.

Other firms are urged to emulate the commitment and to seek out investment opportunities in strategic projects targeted at addressing critical bottlenecks in the existing TVET system and its relevancy to the broader energy-sector related technical labour force.
