As the war against terrorism gains momentum in Kenya, it may not be that easy after all to smoke Al-Shabaab terrorists out of Kenya because they have infiltrated Kenya and controlled part of its economy.
This is after it emerged that the Al-Shabaab terrorists control the lucrative miraa trade in Kenya.
According to the new report released by the World Bank, Interpol and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Al-Shabaab invested over sh35 billion, which is ransom money, in the miraa business in Kenya.
 
However, earlier reports had indicated that most of the pirates money had been invested in real estate business in Kenya but the truth of the matter is that a lot of is in the miraa trade.
 
Kenya exports over 3,000 kgs of miraa to Mogadishu, Somalia three times daily, which makes the trade very lucrative.
 
The proceeds from miraa trade are used to fund terrorism activities in Kenya including the Westgate Mall terror attack.
 
Impeccable sources said the involvement of Al-Shabaab in miraa trade in Kenya was one of the reasons the British Government banned Kenyan miraa in the UK.
